Seattle Mariners Name Jason Kanzler as New Manager Following Seasonal Disappointment
The Seattle Mariners have appointed Jason Kanzler, a 36-year-old with no prior managerial experience, as their new leader, replacing Dan Wilson.
The Seattle Mariners have made a bold move by appointing Jason Kanzler as their new manager, marking a significant shift following a disappointing 2026 season where they finished with a 76-86 record 123. This decision comes after Dan Wilson was let go from his position, signaling a fresh start for the team as they look to bounce back from last year’s underwhelming performance 123.
Kanzler, at just 36 years old, steps into the role without any previous managerial experience, but he brings a wealth of knowledge from his time as a major league coach for the Houston Astros in 2022 and 2023 123. His journey to this point includes stints as the Chicago Cubs’ director of player development, showcasing his ability to nurture talent and develop strategies 23.
Jerry Dipoto, the president of baseball operations for the Mariners, sees great potential in Kanzler, believing he can help set a championship standard for the team 1. This optimism is shared by Kanzler himself, who expressed excitement about working with the Mariners’ roster, which boasts a mix of seasoned veterans and promising young players 3.
While the Mariners had a memorable run in 2025, reaching Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, the following season saw a dip in form, making Kanzler’s appointment all the more intriguing as he aims to reignite the team’s winning spirit 12.
Before his coaching career, Kanzler had a brief stint as a professional player with the Minnesota Twins organization from 2013 to 2015, adding another layer to his connection with the sport 3.
