Criminal Minds: Evolution Set to Conclude Its Journey with Season 20 on Paramount+
The beloved crime drama, now in its 16th year, will wrap up its story arc with its 20th season, set to premiere in 2027.
Criminal Minds: Evolution, the long-running crime drama, is set to conclude its journey with the 20th season on Paramount+. This decision, reportedly made by the new Paramount+ leadership under Casey Bloys, comes after the series received an early renewal for Season 20 before the debut of Season 19. The 20th season is scheduled to premiere in 2027, marking the end of a saga that began in 2005 on CBS.
The original Criminal Minds series aired for 15 seasons on CBS, amassing a total of 300 episodes. It then moved to Paramount+ where it continued for five more seasons under the name Criminal Minds: Evolution. This latest chapter includes the return of familiar faces such as Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, and RJ Hatanaka, alongside newcomers Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster. The series is produced by 20th Television and CBS Studios, with showrunners including Erica Messer, Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, Stacey Hardt, and Mark Gordon.
Erica Messer, one of the showrunners, expressed her gratitude towards the cast, crew, and fans, highlighting the enduring support that has kept the series thriving for so many years. Despite the conclusion of the series, Criminal Minds has left a lasting legacy with two spin-offs: Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.
Production for Season 20 wrapped earlier in the fall, setting the stage for the final chapters of the beloved series. In the meantime, Criminal Minds: Evolution continues to be a hit on Paramount+, currently ranking within the platform’s top ten most-watched shows.
