Windows 11 sees significant speed and responsiveness gains on PCs equipped with 8GB of RAM.

Microsoft has announced several enhancements to Windows 11 that significantly boost performance on devices with 8GB of RAM. According to reports, Windows 11 is up to 40 percent faster on such PCs, with multitasking also seeing a notable improvement of up to 40 percent. Additionally, the operating system is reported to be up to 20 percent more responsive on 8GB PCs. These advancements come alongside memory improvements, where Windows can now retain up to 2GB more of active data in memory, enhancing the user experience. Microsoft 365 applications have also seen memory efficiency gains, with committed-memory growth reduced by up to 900MB. Individual applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook save up to 360MB of RAM each. Furthermore, the 2026 8GB Dell XPS 13 has shown impressive performance, with over 90% faster multi-core CPU performance compared to its 2021 counterpart. It matches the 2021 model with twice the memory in general CPU performance, web browsing, 4K video export, and some AI tasks. Other notable features include widgets in Windows 11 not loading until opened, saving 200MB of RAM, and inactive tabs in Edge sleeping after 15 minutes to reduce memory use. Edge opens up to 33% faster on 8GB PCs, and Efficiency Mode in Teams is turned on by default on these systems. Operations such as opening Start, searching, right-clicking, opening Settings, using the Snipping Tool, and opening File Explorer are reportedly 20% faster. These performance and memory efficiency improvements require Windows 11 version 26H2 build 26300.9818 or later. 1234
